Meet The Jardines {Confessions of a Wedding Photographer}

Last year I was asked to be a wedding photographer for McKenzie and Alex. Their wedding is one of my favorites. McKenzie’s dress was unbelievable. Seriously, you can check it out Here. What I loved most about the wedding and bridal party was the fashion style. So when McKenzie’s Mom asked me to take their...

Andrea Graf - Hi Erin :) Just drooling over your pictures, as usual!! You are so talented. These family pics are beautiful! We’re going to have everyone in town this summer and I’m determined to do family pictures even if we all hate each other after. Always a huge ordeal, always worth it. Where were these taken?

Light and Drama {Wedding Photographer TIPS}

  Light is what makes or breaks a photo. Let’s face it, the very definition of Exposure in reference to snapping pictures is the light your sensor collects in one image. Too much light and you’re picture will be washed out, or blown to white nothingness. Too little and your image will be dark. Like...

Mike Hansen - Such a great post Erin! I enjoyed reading all the tips. Your photos turned out amazing. I especially like the black and white. I usually like a balance of back light with a little reflector to get catch lights.

Kelli west - Fabulous tips Erin. Loved the pictures of course!! You rock my dear.

Michelle Kemp - Thank you for the tips! You are an amazing photographer…so anything you can leak out to us amateurs…is great! I do love back lighting…but I’m going to definitely have to try the “face turned to the light” beautiful!!!

Terra Cooper - Gorgeous as always! I love your photography so much!!!

Tara Winsor - LOVE the way that you capture light! And the tips make perfect sense. I’m going to have to try them out! Thank you!!

Madalyn Nuccitelli - GREAT tips!! You’re THE very best as capturing the mood!

ally - Erin, that black and white veil one is just…GAH. They are all beautiful. You are the most talented (and hardworking!) person I know!!

Lens Love in Las Vegas {Wedding Photographer TIPS}

I’m a lover of lenses. If I could, I’d own all that Nikon has to offer. Unfortunately Uncle Mastercard’s generosity only extends so far. And so, like many photographers, before I was able to purchase more lenses, I’ve done what I can with what I have. One of the first lenses that I saved up...

Jessie Evans - My 50mm 1.4 is my go-to, followed by the 85mm 1.8. I’m a sucker for prime lenses.

Mallory - Where’s the agree button? I love the 1.4 creamy bokeh effect. And you do it flawlessly. I also really love the 85mm 1.4 lens.

Also. where’s the “be my best friend” button!? I have a good resume for it: I live in PG, I’m in love with all things photoggy, I’m a crazy good collaborator, AND I super love doling out comments.

Full disclosure caveat: I don’t LOVE Coke Zero…. but nobody’s perfect right?

Terra Cooper - That is a pretty lens. Too bad it isn’t a Canon! Haha-just kidding :D I love shooting full length portraits with my 50mm and details too. The blur is awesome!

Tara Winsor - That is one of the lenses that is next on my list!! LOVE shooting wide open! And I seriously can’t get enough of your NEON boneyard shoot! Seriously.

Kelli west - Sigh. Dreamy, beautiful pictures!! I seriously need your Uncle Mastercard!! lol… Oh Erin.

Shiz vs. Crap {confessions of a Utah Wedding Photographer}

My friend in college had a favorite phrase: “Dang girl, that’s the shiz!” He’d drop the line whenever something was awesomely amazing. And now (not so many post-college years later…*cough, cough) I find myself busting out the SHIZ! “Holy Shiz! That picture rocks my world,” or, ”Did you go to WPPI? Because that was the SHIZ!”...

Kelli west - ok, you seriously crack.me.up. Love your writing and how you get words out of your brain!! Love the baby photos!!! I think you rock at anything you shoot!!!

Terra Cooper - Thanks for the inspiration! Sometimes I feel like I am in a rut and doing things like this will get my inspiration going again. :D Love those baby pictures!

Valori Perry - Hahahahahahaha! Oh Erin! You’re the shiz!!

Kami Averett - Oh Erin…you know what, when I am down in the dumps I just come see you or read your blog or simply stalk you on FB. Because you are the SHIZ!

Sometimes the best inspiration for me is to stop being a photographer and just go take pictures. Take my kids to the zoo or just to the park and simply take pictures! THAT is the root of this passion for me and sometimes it’s all about getting back to the root of the matter.

Thanks for always being a friend and mentor (not to mention totally entertaining!) Love your guts!

Kami

Tara Winsor - Love these tips! I get in a rut, and I find it hard to find inspiration. Great tips in trying to get out of the rut!! And umm…you rock at newborn photos too. :)

Julie Tandy - Erin, you are amazing! I love these pics:)

Jessie Humphries - You’re the shiz, girl! Little Baby Reese is so adorable. I find inspiration by reading Walt Whitman quotes and California sunshine. Just sayin’! :)

Kari - I LOVE your photography!!!! You do amazing work!! You’re the shiz! I love looking at your work, and I’m just a wannabe photographer, lol!!

Rylan | PHOTO 101 Class Shoot

I teach PHOTO 101 and PHOTOSHOP in monthly installments through the winter months because I take less weddings from January through March. Call me wuss, it’s alright. I like to hide out from the snow and rain and cold. And I love teaching. It takes me back to my post-college, high school teaching days. Today...
